Changing Mirror Covers – Blue To BlackAugust 25, 2018
There isn’t anything wrong with body coloured wing mirrors on a car – in my case, Aqua blue.
But I want to make my Yeti look a little different from the crowd
I’ve already been busy customising my Yeti. And there are more plans afoot!
Today I want to change the colour of my wing mirrors.
I already know that many Yeti owners who have changed their covers have gone either for chrome…
Or the brushed steel look…
But I am middle way through removing all shiny parts from the outside of my Yeti and turning her into just blue and black. I really like this look.
So I ordered black wing mirror covers.
They arrived fast.
This is actually only a ten minute job each side you’ll be pleased to know.
I start by easing part of my finger underneath the mirror glass and carefully prise it away a little. Then I do the same further along a bit.
I hear a healthy ‘click’ not a dreaded ‘snap’ – the mirror is out
But these two wires are the heated mirror wires…
Once I unclip them the mirror is free.
Four things inside this housing stand between me and my new black covers:
First are two small Torx screws. I keep a Torx screwdriver set in my Yeti for all these things I do on my car.

Let’s undo them.
Once the Torx screws are out the second thing is two retaining tabs that need pushing down with my finger.
Not forcefully. But, I push down.
Using my fingernails from the back of my mirror cover I pull and it separates from the wing mirror and I am happy that I have broken nothing. 😎
The removed cover goes inside my Yeti next to the mirror glass.
Out comes a spanking new black mirror cover
I repeat what I just did but in reverse.
One side complete and looking sharp, in my opinion
I now repeat everything the other side.
Pack away the removed original mirror covers.
Wanna buy ’em? 🙂
Isn’t she pretty?
Feel free to stay tuned for more modifications I have planned.
You can see what I have done so far, here: Yeti Customisation

And I am always interested to hear about your Yeti, customised or not.
