Skoda 120 Estelle – Abandoned

Skoda 120 Estelle – Abandoned

December 30, 2018 2 By Yeti Admin

Here is the second Skoda 120 Estelle to be featured on ‘Spotted’

This one I almost didn’t spot, as my mate and me were driving on route to a village restaurant for lunch yesterday.

Skoda abandoned production of the Estelle in 1990.

When someone abandoned this one is anyone’s guess 😮

Simply dumped beside a country lane. God knows in which year that was!

Cars rotting away in gardens, at farms and in barns are nothing new. But this?

How much must you despise your car to take it out to the sticks, lock it up, and simply walk away?

Forever.

This was no ‘insurance job’. And it wasn’t stolen but never recovered (it’s beside a public lane).

It clearly was also not worth its owner’s time of scrapping it in a more dignified manner.

She was discarded like trash – never to be touched by human hands again

How long does it take for a car to get like this?

Of course people are free to do what they like with their cars. But don’t do this!

Even wrecks at scrap yards have got each other for company

This unfortunate Estelle has known only trees and termites for most of her existence.

But nature won’t be consuming her just yet – at least not all of her!

According to an article I read on AOL Autos, it’s going to take between 50 and 80 years for her tyres to decompose. Her engine block will still be around for about 500 years. And the glass in all her windows isn’t going anywhere – at least not for the next million years, give or take a century or two.

The butt of countless ‘rot box’ jokes during her younger life, today, from this her final resting place beside this lane, where cars that are cherished and cared for pass by frequently, this uncherished and uncared for elderly Czechoslovakian lady, now too frail to ever grace a road again, defies the odds and is still in one piece.

Her abandonment has taken its toll, of that there’s no doubt, but she is still standing!

She endures the corrosive stings of the elements, blow by blow, year upon year, yet remains on her feet – asking not to be forgotten.

Well she ISN’T forgotten. Not now.

Farewell, old girl.

If I spot an interesting machine somewhere I get out my mobile phone and take a few photos.

Then I feature it here in ‘Spotted’

And I am always keen to hear about your interesting car, motorbike or scooter.
