Yamaha RD400August 8, 2018
The only surviving photo of my RD400.
This was taken in 1992 in Daventry, Northants. I was visiting a mate, and you can just see a tiny bit of his silver Alfa Romeo in the left of the picture.
It was a 1979 model. Two-stroke air cooled six-speed of course. And in, what Yamaha called ‘Competition Yellow’.
A previous owner had removed the original exhaust pipes and fitted a pair from an RD LC
Incidentally, I owned an RD350LC back in the 80’s, but not one photograph of it survives, as with any of my bikes from those days. Though I probably never took any anyway, those Polaroid Instamatic cameras were expensive back then.
So this was my RD I owned in the 1990’s. I had it for about a year and a half then sold it for a few hundred quid, as was its value at the time.
Today Yamaha RD’s of all cc’s sell for thousands, search eBay and brace yourself!
You can see more cars, motorbikes and scooters I’ve been lucky enough to own, here: Previous Machines.
And I am always keen to hear about the interesting machines you have owned.
